Home Care Owner Panelists

Dr. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Southern California (USC) and worked as a Research Scientist in the pharmaceutical industry for 15 years. His transition to a Home Instead franchise owner was catalyzed by his experience as a family caregiver and his desire to provide the highest quality of care to the most vulnerable in our community.  Dr. Sanchez is a staunch advocate for “person-centered” care within the aging adult and developmentally disabled populations. Greg is a member of the Service Provider Action Committee for the Lanterman Regional Center; the Co-Chair for the California Chapter of the Home Care Association of America; an adult education advisor, focused on enhancing home care aide training programs throughout the state. Dr. Sanchez is preceptor for USC Lenord Davis School of Gerontology graduate students interested in non-medical home care case management and holds an adjunct faculty position at Pasadena City College. Most recently Greg and his team were awarded a 2023 CalGrows Innovation Grant by the California Department of Aging for their work in creating new training pathways for direct care workers.

Patty Aiken, SHRM, Owner, Home Instead Greensboro, NC.  Patty Aiken and her husband, Lee Aiken, are the owners of Home Instead, a locally owned and operated franchise of the Home Instead network. Their franchise office provides in-home, non-medical services for the Guilford County area (Greensboro, High Point and surrounding areas) and has done so for over 23 years, 15 of which they have been the owners. Patty is a native of Greensboro and is primarily responsible for the management of the daily operations of the business. She graduated from Meredith College, in Raleigh, NC with a B.S. in Business Administration.  Her career prior to owning the Home Instead business includes 25+ years in the business environment both in General Management and in Human Resources roles for several locally owned businesses. She maintains her SHRM Senior Certified Professional certification as designated by the Society of Human Resource Management Association. Patty has served in the past or currently on the Board of Directors for many organizations: the Western Carolinas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greensboro Rotary Club, Senior Resources of Guilford County and The Women’s Professional Forum.

Geneva Gray, MA, Owner and Director, Visiting Angels Santa Clarita and San Luis Obispo, CA. I always knew my career would be in the senior care field. I began in nursing and then earned my masters degree in healthcare administration with a focus on gerontology. I worked in skilled nursing facilities and found that my calling is definitely home care. My business partner and I opened our first Visiting Angels office in Southern California in 2005 and our second territory four years later.  We currently provide almost 3000 hours of care per week.

Mark Turnbull, CNA, CSA, MA, Owner, ComforCare West Linn, OR.  Observing the trends of an aging population, Mark and his wife Christina established an In-Home Care agency, ComForCare Home Care of West Linn to the Portland, OR market. He quickly realized that creating a ‘caregiver first’ culture was paramount.  Caregiving is about matching the right caregiver to the right client. He collaborated with another startup, MiliMatch, leveraging AI technology to ensure the onboarding of qualified caregivers with the right behavioral attributes (soft skills), ensuring better caring outcomes. To assist Mark and his passion for educating people on aging, he created and became the host to the Podcast, Aging Today, in 2017.  Some 200k followers over the past 8 years, Mark’s professional guests are connecting with the listeners on proactive aging in the right place while creating better days throughout the aging process. In 2023, Mark and Christina established Vital Palliative Care and Royal Hospice Oregon. Under the banner of Caring In Oregon, ComForCare West Linn, Vital Palliative Care and Royal Hospice are combining to provide a continuum of care model that is making a difference to those who are aging.

Host

Jen Waldron, Co-Founder, Augusta

I’m deeply passionate about improving the care that older adults receive and improving the quality of life for caregivers doing the work. I started my career in senior care as a professional caregiver in a memory care community. Through my experience as a professional caregiver, I learned first-hand the pain of understaffing and pulling a double-shift. It’s part of what keeps me motivated to improve caregiver recruiting for the whole industry.

I joined IPCed, a leader in online training that was acquired by OnCourse Learning, helping the post-acute division scale to $10M+ ARR. I then joined CareAcademy and drove the company from hundreds of thousands in ARR to multi-millions. (Linkedin)
