Caregivers are caring for loved ones at home

โ€œI currently take care of my parents. When I finish with work, I head over to my parents to care for them and prepare their house for the following day. This gets easily overwhelming. So when I apply to jobs, I look for agencies that are welcoming of my family caregiver responsibilities. Most agencies say they โ€œaccept all shiftsโ€ or โ€œwork with your scheduleโ€ but sadly, they never hold up to their end of the deal.โ€

Some similarities we have noticed from our caregiver interviews are that caregivers look for agencies that offer leniency with their schedules and look for operators that are understanding of their outside responsibilities. ๐Ÿ˜

One tip we recommend to both small and large agencies is to integrate caregiver โ€œfloatersโ€ into their workforce. This is someone who can fill in staffing deficiencies in case a caregiver needs to call out due to a family emergency or simply needs a selfcare day. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Another tip we recommend is for agencies to start initiating a more regular and consistent open dialogue with their caregivers. Create a platform where caregivers feel comfortable to reach out to you and tell you where they need help in their work without it being a reflection on their performance.๐Ÿ”ฅ

In conclusion as an agency owner, you have to concern yourself with the well-being of your caregivers. Not only Integrating a step in your recruiting process where caregivers can explain their outside responsibilities, but accepting their responsibilities is crucial.
